The Wanting

The futility
Of
Wanting
Taught
Learned
So long ago

No purpose
In
Wanting
No hope
In
Wanting
The
Cannot-be
The
Impossible-for-me
The
Forbidden-forever

She danced
She dreamed
For a time
I
Was
I
Thought
I
Was
Her dream
Her dance

Why
Want
Is it human
Is it fault
It is lethal
An agony
Deeper
Than
Tears

I
May
Hunger
Never be
Filled
I
Can
Want
Never
have
Not even that
Which
Seems
At times
So little to ask

Wanting
A barren place
To live

~

Time
Brings new choices
Visions
I
Chose
To
Want
Only
The gift
Bestowed
Before
It was wanted

Life
Is
Sufficient
Abundance

~

Almost ready
How could I be ready
There came a fierce wanting
Inside out
Upside down
I was
Not
Ready

Love
Love
Offered
Compelling
Pleading

Love
Wanting
Me

Eternity
May
Satisfy
My wanting you

I think
It
May
Not

  1. Thank you Nancy
    Very compelling
    As Chan used to say
    Of Vincent's face

  2. Nancy, this it the ultimate, the most beautiful, the most painfully exquisite of your works. (I know, I say that with regularity and I mean it Every Time).

The last two stanzas. I have no words.

Thank you, a dozen thank-yous, for this.

    Love,
    Carole

  3. I concur! What a beautiful addition to your collection, friend!

  4. With a giggle I am wondering if praise from my Blog-Mate is some kind of warped nepotism or insider trading or ...! But I do thank you, Carole, and the thought that my efforts might actually call forth, let alone merit, such words is rather stunning. Feeling as I do about your writing, I guess we've a mutual admiration society going here! You're sweet, you know!!!

  5. Ah ha! Praise from my other Blog-Mate. Did you two decide together on this??? I'm teasing. I believe you liked The Wanting, Michelle! Thank you so much for saying it here...in public! I'm blushing. Nancy

  6. I think that being praised with Chan's words must be more than this deserves but thank you, thank you for bringing her here. I'm so honored to have both of you visit. Nancy

  7. Nancy,

I have been "lurking" for quite a while, led here by Carole's site. I have loved your words but have never left words of my own. This last work is stunning --- breathtaking--- It captures so much longing and futility and reasons why and why not. Finally it also captures the hope that is Vincent and Catherine together. Hope enough to finally leave that barren place of wanting and live the life of abundance that they both deserve.

  8. Ann, thank you for this extraordinary and very beautiful compliment. It's neat to think we've been 'sort of' part of one another's lives here... Thank you for saying hello and for saying so much more than hello! Do you write fanfic? Nancy

  9. Oh, Nancy. I love this. The words ache...but the last two stanzas...wow. Just...wow. What lovely pictures you create with your words.

    Just beautiful,

    Krista :)

  10. Hi Nancy!

I have a few stories on TT and TST under the pen name of Moose. They are not as lyrical as I would like them to be but hopefully I am improving with each one.

I have bookmarked the site and look forward to seeing more of your work. The three of you are very talented and I am so appreciative that you share that with us.

  11. Krista, thank you! You've started my Monday morning with sunshine and delight! "The words ache..." Wow - to you! That is something I wish I'd said...it's fantastic! Use it in a story! You must! Love, Nancy

  12. Ann, you're Moose??? I have to go and find those stories. Why...Moose? I think there must be a clever reason. Can you share it? Thank you for the compliment on behalf of Mich and Carole and me. They are amazing writers and I am honored to share this space with them. Happy Monday and thank you! Nancy

  13. Nancy,

You are correct. There is a story behind my pen name. It is in tribute to both my family and the larger B&B family.

Moose was the name of a much loved furry family member that crossed the rainbow bridge several years ago after an unsuccessful battle with cancer.

The B&B connection has to do with a story about Roy Dotrice. It seems that he had a habit of pronouncing the name of Mouse as Moose. You can almost see the annoyed "Father" look Roy must have given his cast mates whenever he got caught at it.

All in all it seemed to be a good fit. :^)

  14. I concur with the last two stanzas as well!!!!

  16. Brit, my thank you note to you seems to have gotten deleted. (I will never understand computers!) Please know that I am very grateful for all the time you've given to my little poems and stories today. And, I'm grateful for your kindness in telling me you enjoyed them. Hope your evening is special. Love, Nancy

  17. How remarkable that you could tell the story of Vincent's unrequited love for Lisa and the unexpected gift of Catherine's love in such a beautiful way. With such few words you tell us of lessons learned and of the miracles life can bring.

  18. Thank you, R1, for finding that much beauty in this and for sharing your discovery with me. You're very kind. Nancy
